  17.  PanCanadian Enters Strategic Alliance with NeXT

  19.  ALBERTA, CANADA-PanCanadian Petroleum Limited and NeXT Computer,
  20.  Inc. today announced that PanCanadian will use NeXTSTEP 3.1 for
  21.  Intel Processors as the primary software for the development and
  22.  delivery of custom business applications internally.  PanCanadian,
  23.  a major Canadian oil and gas producer, is developing custom
  24.  applications to enhance various aspects of its business,
  25.  principally in its Operations Group.

  27.  "We selected NeXTSTEP for its advanced object-oriented
  28.  capabilities," said Roger Coates, coordinator of technology
  29.  management at PanCanadian.

  31.  NeXTSTEP significantly reduces application development time while
  32.  improving application quality.  In addition, it offers direct
  33.  benefits to users through its highly integrated object-oriented
  34.  development, database, graphic, communications and multimedia
  35.  environment.

  37.  "With the migration of NeXTSTEP to industry-standard hardware, the
  38.  deployment of this platform became both practical and advantageous
  39.  for PanCanadian," Coates said.

  41.  NeXTSTEP is the leading object-oriented software environment for
  42.  developing and deploying client/server applications.  NeXTSTEP for
  43.  Intel processors is the version of the software that runs on
  44.  industry-standard PCs powered by Intel486 and Pentium
  45.  microprocessors.

  47.  Currently, PanCanadian is in the first stage of a four to
  48.  five-year program to upgrade its information management
  49.  capabilities.  When NeXTSTEP is fully deployed in approximately
  50.  three years, the majority of PanCanadian's professional staff will
  51.  use the NeXT software for many of their business activities.
